The GVBA represents people in New York State dedicated to promoting Thoroughbred and Thoroughbred-type horse activities, including breeding, racing, hunting, steeplechasing, showing, driving, pleasure riding, dressage and combined training.

2019 GENESEE VALLEY BREEDER'S STAKES

The 41st running of the GVB Stakes was contested on August 19th, 2019 at Fingerlakes Racetrack over a distance of one and one sixteenth miles on a dirt track rated fast. 

 

The 2019 winner was Winston’s Chance, a 6yr old chestnut gelding by Roaring Fever-Betty’s Chance by Duckhorn, bred in NY by Sherry Washburn and co-owned by Char Allie Stable and Kathy Haers.  He was piloted to victory by jockey Alvarado Nazario and trained by Debra Breed.

 

The winner broke alertly, stalked the pace setters 4 wide down the back stretch in 3rd, collared the leader on the turn, taking the lead off the turn for home and won by 2 ¾ lengths in a final time of 1:45.35.

 

Winston’s Chance ran 2nd in both the 2017 and 2018 GVB Stakes.  This year’s victory brings his career stats to 9 wins, 6 seconds, 4 thirds from 27 starts and earnings of $295,047.

2018 GENESEE VALLEY BREEDER'S STAKES

 “Hit It Once More” won the 40th running of the Genesee Valley Breeders’ Stakes.

         A 5 year old son of Hard Spun o/o Sunday Geisha by Sunday Break won going wire to wire covering the  One Mile And One Sixteenth distance in fractions of 24.56, 48.65, 1:12.39,  1:37.70., and a final time of 1:44.52. 

         Hit It Once More  now has a record of 7 wins, 2 seconds, and 5 thirds in 30 starts with earnings of $553,342 for owner Yellow Moon Stables, LLC and trainer Gary Sciacca.  John R. Davilla Jr. piloted the winner to victory.  Hit It Once More was bred in New York by JMJ Racing Stables, LLC.

2017 BREEDERS STAKES RACE

The Genesee Valley Breeders Handicap was run on 8/21/17, and the winner was Peter’s Project, a gelding by Anasheed out of Hurricane Betsy, by Quiet American.   

33 starts 13 wins 6 seconds 4 thirds, total earnings $237,835.
Owner/trainer is Michael Ferraro
Jockey was Jose Gutierrez
Breeder is Stonewall Farm
